Joey Votto is the latest in a long list of great players from the Cincinnati Reds. He joins a winning tradition that goes back over a hundred years! In his rookie year, all the way in 1899, Noodles Hahn led the National League in strikeouts. Continuing in the next two years, also the publication of a total of four seasons to win twenty six years, something only a handful of players today can claim. The Reds also brought home in the early National League batting titles, thanks to Edd Roush, Cy Seymour and Bill McKechnie Chase. With Hal as manager, the Reds released a series of victories, with the trophies is to match. In 1940 alone, the first baseman Frank McCormick won the MVP, Cincinnati won 100 games and starting the World Series! Catcher Ernie Lombardi was the star, however, being named to the All-Star team five times between 1936 and 1940 and get a nomination for the MVP in 1938. Pitcher Bucky Walters grabbed the MVP among his teammates in 1939, one of the pitchers few seconds to get the prize. After this success three Vander Meer Jonny consecutive strikeout crowns almost seems an afterthought. Almost. After nine years of his stay with the team in fine fashion, Frank Robinson won the Rookie of the Year in 1956. He said the MVP award in the National League in 1961, along with a World Series ring to boot! Known for crowding the plate, Robinson was the league leader in the success of pitchers in more than one occasion.Though Robinson was changed before its peak, a new star was rising in the Pete Rose. Matching Robinson to win the Rookie of the Year in 1963, also went on to greatness. He walked away with some titles struggle, becoming a leader in the majors all affected the time, and was named MVP for both the National League and World Series.Pete Rose, along with other ones such as second baseman Joe Morgan and Johnny the receiving bank, Cincinnati became the "Big Red Machine". Manager Sparky Anderson led the team to five division championships and winning consecutive World Series in 1975 and 1976. Among the eight position players, the Big Red Machine stored prizes including six MVP awards, twenty five Gold Gloves, three batting titles, sixty-three All-Star appearances 1970 to 1975. Coasting after the departure of Anderson and Rose, the only bright spot in the seventies was a pair of homers titles courtesy of George Foster. A low profile for almost a decade, players like Barry Larkin, Chris Sabo (Rookie of the Year recipient in 1988), and Jose Rijo turned the tide in the eighties. Due to its late inclusion manager Lou Pinella, Cincinnati not only won the division, but the World Series in 1990. Rijo was recognized for his valuable performance.Over Series during the 1900 race with the Reds Barry Larkin, shortstop was awarded the MVP (in 1995), three Gold Gloves, nine Silver Sluggers, and was named to the All Star team twelve times. In 1996, after playing over thirty home runs and thirty stolen bases, became a member of the Cincinnati Reds 30-30 club. The seems ready for a break again. Back Vatta Joey made the playoffs for the first time in fifteen years. Although they were swept in the first round, it seems only a matter of time before reaching the series again.
